Effective solutions
often grow out of real life experiences. That is the case with the Next
Generation Series. This material is not theorectical. It is based upon
our experiences as a family and subsequently input from many other families
who have wrestled with our relationship to teens.
In
1985 Jason Wilkie, a high school freshman initiated what has become
an 18 year project with Bill Wilkie, his father. Jason asked,
"What does it take to play college football?" Bill Wilkie
suggested that he talk with his high school coach. A week later
Bill asked Jason, "What did you find out about football recruiting?"
Jason's response was, "It was too intimidating for me as
a freshman to ask about playing college football." The two
of them embarked on a project to interview six college coaches.
Having completed this work, they co-authored the first manual
entitled "The High School Football Player." As you can
see, Jason played college football at Central Michigan University
and is now the Director of Parks and Recreation in Jonesboro,
Arkansas.
